Bending the Arc

New “Scholarship” Program for Reduced-Cost Therapy

Things are a lot right now.

I know that by reaching out to each other and building community, we have the best chance to make it through hard times.

While I can’t fix the increasing breakdown and hostility of our everyday infrastructure* - I can provide therapy.

I’m launching a program of low-cost ($50/session) therapy spots, filled on a rolling basis.

Vered in the News

Unfortunately, some men are handsome

For the third month in a row, I’ve been featured in USA Today! (USA Today? More like Vered Monthly!)

This month’s question: Handsome men. Can they glow-up?

Why are already conventionally-attractive men being shown in “glow-up” videos and what are the effects of this phenomenon?

The handsomest boy, in my opinion

CEU Spotlight

ARFID and Autism

For some people with ASD, being asked to eat sensory-overwhelming foods can feel like being asked to eat a handsome man.* Eww. No. Why would you ask me to do that?

We’ll discuss the ethical questions that arise when one group of people processes the world differently.

How can we help youth with ARFID navigate a world that is frequently hostile, while ensuring they have the nutrients and self-advocacy skills to grow into strong, confident adults?

We’ll begin to talk about these questions and more.

*10/10 segue

If someone you know would benefit from any of the free CEUs, please share!

Partners in Health

How do you treat an epidemic when you don’t have the staff, medicine, and money required?

According to most organizations, you don’t.**

The idea that some lives matter less is the root of all that is wrong with the world.

Paul Farmer

Partners in Health is an organization founded by people who saw, up close, the horror of “efficacy” in medical aid. Many governments and NGOs spent all of their funding on prevention alone, leading many to die of treatable diseases.

Partners in Health provides a model based in respect and accompaniment, treating every life as valuable. Learn more about their work at the link below.

a.k.a. please don’t sue me

*The term for this phenomenon in tech is very illustrative.

**Doctors Without Borders describes how their approach to HIV/AIDS was focused only on prevention, and why this was a mistake.

There is a film about Partners in Health called Bending the Arc that you can watch for free on their website.

Survival, Together

Some lovely people have reached out wanting to send me a tip for my free CEU offerings.

Instead of sending me something, why not pay it forward in our community?

I've been a personal supporter of RAICES for a decade. Their work on immigration justice has, unfortunately, never been more important.

Until next time,
