We can blame it on the intern!
We’re expanding.

Pictured: some of Texas’s best lil sprouts!
What’s that little sprout over there?
Is it a wildflower? A bluebonnet excited for spring?
No, even better: it’s an intern!
I am thrilled to welcome Vered Counseling’s first intern (codename: Sprout).
Sprout is a senior in high school. She approached us for her capstone project (to create a lasting, positive effect in their community).
Around here, we have more ideas than spoons. I am so grateful to have an extra pair of hands on deck for what we’ve got planned.
We’re currently working on a secret project (hopefully to be announced next month!)
You might see Sprout doing some of the marketing this Spring. I’m grateful for their help and can’t wait to share what’s in store!

Vered in the News
Consent and Keeping Kids Safe
When I was in middle school, my (Episcopal) health class taught sex-ed through cartoons of Jesus.
Looking back, I’m not even sure if the videos were supposed to be helpful.
What I absolutely could have used was an explanation of consent.

It can be hard to imagine conversations we never had ourselves.
Read on to learn more about helping kids say “no.”
CEU Spotlight
Teen Dating Abuse
I hate that this has a news peg.
None of my CEUs should have a news peg. This is terrible.
If you want to learn more about the horrors of being a teenager, this is for you!
We’ll go over things that therapists usually miss, plus NEW information (on a topic that should not generate new information, but here we are).1
If someone you know would benefit from any of the free CEUs, please share!
Showing Some Love
Zilker Botanical Garden
Y’all probably have heard of Zilker Botanical Garden. It’s a haven of flowers, trees, and water in the heart of Austin.
What y’all might not know is Zilker is having a Free Day, Monday Jan 19.
It always amazes me to look at the little, wrinkled brown seeds and think of the rainbows in 'em
Get some nature! Take a break! Look at a bird or two! The garden is a lovely offering in a time where we all need some solace.

Survival, Together
Well, this is awkward.
Usually, this space is where I suggest supporting local organizations, specifically RAICES.
Last week, The Barbed Wire released an article on RAICES refusing funding, dropping kids, and lying about it.2
I’m not sure why they lied. I’m assuming it’s the normal Non-Profit-Industrial-Complex malfeasance.3 Regardless, if someone’s lying about their basic fundraising pitch, how can I trust that they’re going to be good stewards of donations.
I’m very disappointed, but I’m glad former staffers were brave enough to speak out.
